Yesayi Karamyan, who lost his wrist due to flashbang grenades, has not yet been recognized as a victim

On June 12, Yesayi Karamyan lost his wrist due to flashbang grenades used by the police on Baghramyan Avenue. He has not yet been recognized as a victim. Lawyer Manush Yesayan stated in an interview with "Factinfo" that Yesayi Karamyan currently has the status of a witness.

"I have just been involved as a witness' lawyer. Since Yesayi cannot sign any documents with his hand, we are trying to involve myself through his wife for my engagement so that we can present the appropriate motions and deal with the protection of his rights," said the lawyer. According to her, there is a decision from the investigator to appoint a forensic medical examination, but no forensic doctor has visited yet, considering that they are in a hospital environment and in such cases, they do not rush to send a forensic doctor, as the patient's actual condition is already documented in the medical facility.

Relevant letters have already been sent to the Investigative Committee, and if there is no response in the coming days, they will be guided through other means by submitting new letters and complaints.

It is noteworthy that Yesayi Karamyan has the status of a witness within the framework of the procedure initiated with the characteristics of "mass disturbances," and a separate procedure regarding the bodily injury he sustained has not been initiated against the disproportionate actions of the police.

Regarding whether there is an intention that may later present citizens as having suffered due to their actions rather than due to the disproportionate actions of the police, the lawyer noted that this is being discussed among future actions, but the primary task at this stage is to carry out certain actions at least within the framework of this procedure, after which the strategy for continuing the case will be discussed.

Regarding the circumstance of Yesayi possibly taking the flashbang grenade by hand, which has been exploited by representatives of the authorities as if to throw towards the police, Yesayan emphasized that he had no such intention; it is a blatant distortion of facts.

"Law enforcement agencies are obliged to prove the facts they refer to, as the presumption of innocence is applicable. In any case, there is no factual evidence proving that Yesayi had such an intention or desire; these are some hypothetical assumptions that are not substantiated in any way. I am confident that everything will become clear, understandable, and accessible to everyone during the investigation of the case," said Manush Yesayan.

Addressing Yesayi Karamyan's health status, the lawyer reported that he continues to remain in a medical facility, both hands are bandaged, and he is deprived of the possibility to eat or perform other actions with his hands. There are numerous injuries to his body of varying depths and sizes, including shrapnel injuries, but his overall mood is quite combative, and he is determined to achieve justice.

On June 12, more than 101 citizens were injured due to police actions involving violence and the use of flashbang grenades, including journalists. However, law enforcement has not yet provided any assessments of the actions of police officers, while the circumstances of the injuries sustained by citizens affected by their actions are being discussed in the so-called "mass disturbance" case, for which the Investigative Committee diligently reports on arrests. However, at this moment, the preliminary investigation body remains silent about the affected citizens.

"Factinfo" has applied to the Investigative Committee to clarify how many individuals, including police officers, have the status of a victim, but the agency has evaded providing information about the victims.

"Investigative actions are ongoing; I cannot specify, it is a continuous process. At a certain stage of the investigation, we will report," stated the Investigative Committee.
