Driver of Major Accident in Blagoveshchensk Arrested
The number of casualties from a car collision in Blagoveshchensk has reached five. According to a statement from the Amur Region Health Ministry, a 50-year-old woman and a 15-year-old teenager, who were injured in the accident on Vasilenko Street on June 14, have died in the hospital.
The statement further notes that doctors are continuing to fight for the life of a 32-year-old woman who is currently in the intensive care unit. It is reported that on Friday evening in Blagoveshchensk, a minivan hit pedestrians. A 59-year-old man was driving at a high speed and veered off the roadway. Claims have surfaced that the driver was intoxicated. This morning, the court has remanded the driver into custody for two months.
Yevgeny Bakaryukin faces up to 15 years in prison. The driver stated that he had started work at around 5 a.m., completing 33 orders before drinking 0.7 liters of vodka with another person. “It’s true that I got behind the wheel while drunk,” the defendant admitted. He expressed remorse for the incident and apologized to the victims and their families.
