A Suitable Moment is Required: Olaf Scholz
The Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, announced during a broadcast on the German public television channel ARD that he does not rule out the possibility of resuming communication with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to Scholz, he spoke with Putin before and after the onset of the Ukrainian conflict. "I... have always said that I will do it again, but a suitable moment is required. There must be a subject for discussion to make sense," said Scholz in response to the host's question about whether the Chancellor is considering re-establishing contact with the Russian leader.
"But such negotiations only make sense when there is something concrete to discuss. That is why I haven't done it for a long time. However, I do not want there to be a sense that this is excluded," Scholz added.
