G7 Countries Reach Political Agreement on Revenues from Russian Assets

The G7 countries have reached a political agreement to provide Ukraine with a $50 billion loan, but there is no mention of seizing revenues from frozen Russian assets. This was stated by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, according to the ANSA news agency.

“We have reached a political agreement regarding additional financial support for Ukraine of about $50 billion through a loan system by the end of the year. This is not a confiscation, but accumulated interest,” she told reporters.

Meloni clarified that the scheme still needs to be determined “from a technical standpoint.” A White House representative told Reuters that Russian frozen assets in G7 countries are kept untouched and that only the profits derived from them are planned to be used. However, he did not rule out the possibility of seizing these funds in the future.
