Are Russia and Georgia Restoring Relations? Response from the Russian Foreign Ministry
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has commented on reports from Georgian media regarding efforts to restore diplomatic relations between the two countries. The ministry believes that this information is being circulated by Georgian opposition sources.
“We see no reason to comment on the various fake news propagated by Georgian opposition resources,” a representative from the Russian Foreign Ministry told RIA Novosti.
Recall that a day earlier, the Georgian Mtavari television channel reported that the governments of Georgia and Russia are actively working towards the restoration of diplomatic relations and the opening of the Georgian embassy in Moscow, with the selection of staff for the embassy already underway.
Georgia severed diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation on September 3, 2008, after Moscow recognized South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
