FIDE Suspends Russian Chess Federation Membership for Two Years
The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has suspended the Russian Chess Federation's membership for a period of two years. This information was shared on the social media platform X by chess player Peter Heine Nielsen, referencing FIDE's official documents.
According to the document, “The Russian Chess Federation is being punished by temporarily losing its membership in FIDE, including the right to participate in meetings and events held under the organization's auspices. The duration of the exclusion is two years from the date of the decision.”
It is also noted that the suspension of the federation's membership does not affect the chess activities of players, referees, coaches, and clubs that are part of the Russian Chess Federation.
