Businesses Required to Equip Building Entrances with Surveillance Systems
The Permanent Committee on Defense and Security of the National Assembly has discussed a package of amendments to the law on the Police, which proposes to establish an obligation for several organizations and businesses to equip building entrances and all external sides with surveillance systems.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan stated that it is also proposed to ensure that the passenger compartments of ambulances and buses, as well as minibuses engaged in passenger transportation, are equipped with surveillance systems.
Additionally, it is planned to enhance network equipment in underground parking lots, which will contribute to maintaining situational awareness in a 24/7 mode. This will enable preventive measures to be implemented.
Arpine Sargsyan responded to the questions of MPs, which particularly pertained to the protection of individuals' rights, the safeguarding of citizens' personal data, and the conclusions of the personal data protection agency. The Deputy Minister expressed willingness to continue discussions during the period leading up to the second reading to determine whether the proposed safeguards are sufficient and what additional mechanisms may be necessary.
