Fight, Murder and Attempted Murder in Vardenis

The Investigative Committee has released a statement which notes: "As a result of investigative and procedural actions conducted by the Vardenis investigative department of the Gegharkunik regional investigative committee, the circumstances of the murder of a 37-year-old resident of the Gegharkunik region by a 19-year-old resident of the same region, and the attempted murder of the latter’s brother, have been clarified.

According to the factual data obtained during the investigation, it has been established that on February 21, 2024, around 18:30, a dispute occurred over household issues between two brothers aged 41 and 37 from the Gegharkunik region, a 45-year-old resident of the same region, and his 19-year-old son near the cemetery in the village of Pkok Masrik along the Arpunk-Pkok Masrik inter-village road.

During the argument, the 41-year-old man, together with his brother, inflicted blows on the 45-year-old man and his son, causing bodily injuries. In response, the 45-year-old man attempted to kill the aforementioned brothers, wielding a knife with which he delivered multiple strikes to the chest and left side of the abdomen of the 37-year-old man, as well as to the abdomen of his brother. As a result, the 37-year-old man died, while severe bodily injuries threatening the brother's life were inflicted.

Based on sufficient evidence collected, charges have been filed against the 19-year-old under Part 1 of Article 155 of the Criminal Code, and against the 41-year-old man under Part 2, Point 5 of Article 195 of the Criminal Code (in two episodes). A preventive measure of detention has been applied to the 19-year-old, while a prohibition of absence has been imposed on the 41-year-old. The pre-trial investigation has been completed, and the materials of the criminal case, along with the accusatory conclusion, have been sent to the supervising prosecutor for approval and forwarding to court."
