Armenia and Georgia to Jointly Bid for Hosting the 2029 FIFA U-20 World Cup
Armenia and Georgia have submitted a joint bid to host the 2029 FIFA U-20 World Cup. This was announced during a press conference today by the President of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA), Armen Melikbekyan, and the President of the Football Federation of Georgia, Levan Kobiashvili.
FFA President Armen Melikbekyan stated that UEFA has expressed its support for holding the youth world championship in Armenia and Georgia. In case the bid is approved by FIFA, two stadiums will be constructed near the Georgian border in the Lori region and close to the towns of Dilijan and Ijevan.
According to preliminary plans, Armenia will utilize four stadiums. In addition to the aforementioned two, the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium and the National Stadium, whose final construction plans will be approved soon, will also be used.
Levan Kobiashvili, the President of the Football Federation of Georgia, mentioned that he is not only the president of the FGF but also a member of the UEFA executive committee and is aware that UEFA leadership supports Armenia in the upcoming bid submission process.
He indicated that both Georgia and Armenia have considerable experience in organizing and hosting such competitions, which will contribute to successfully hosting another major tournament, provided that the bid is approved by FIFA.
