US Plans Immediate Visa Sanctions Against Georgia Due to New Law
The United States intends to impose immediate visa sanctions against Georgia due to the adoption of a foreign agents law by the country’s parliament. This was announced by U.S. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller. However, he noted that Washington has not yet officially announced any future restrictions.
“We have made it clear that we will not hesitate to implement them,” said Miller.
He emphasized that the U.S. is concerned about the adoption of the foreign agents law, as it could lead to Georgia straying from the democratic path. He also added that the U.S. is currently analyzing its relationship with Georgia and discussing possible actions in response to the enactment of this law.
It should be noted that the Georgian parliament approved the 'Transparency of Foreign Influences' bill in its final reading on May 14. The law came into effect on June 3.
