Orban Warns of NATO Involvement Risks in Conflict
The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, has warned in an interview with the Italian newspaper Giornale that removing restrictions on Ukraine's use of western weapons to strike Russian targets threatens to provoke a strong response from Moscow and increase the risk of NATO’s involvement in the conflict.
“If we allow Ukraine, which is also supplied with weapons by Italy, to strike Russia, it will lead to a strong reaction from Russia, and the risk of NATO’s involvement will increase,” Orban stated.
Orban emphasized that there are representatives of the Hungarian minority in Ukraine, making Hungary “the only EU country whose citizens are dying in Ukraine.” In this context, he noted that it is essential to “ask how to handle the situation—whether to isolate the conflict and find a diplomatic path or to deepen involvement in the war.”
