Claudia Sheinbaum Wins Presidential Election in Mexico

In the presidential elections in Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, the candidate from the government-backed coalition "Together We Continue to Make History," is leading with nearly 58 percent of the votes counted so far, following the processing of 10 percent of the ballots. The calculation results are being broadcasted on the YouTube channel of the Republic's National Electoral Institute.

Sheinbaum has garnered 57.9% of the votes. Her main rival, Xochitl Galvez from the opposition coalition "Strength and Heart for Mexico," has received 29.6% of the votes. In third place is Jorge Alvarez Maynes from the "Civil Movement" party, who has been supported by 10% of the voters.

According to preliminary data from the Mexican Electoral Commission, voter turnout has exceeded 58.8%. It was previously reported that Sheinbaum received more than 57% of the votes, Galvez slightly more than 30%, and Maynes 8%.

The general elections were held in Mexico on June 2. In addition to electing a new president, citizens voted for 500 members of the lower house of Congress and 128 senators. At the regional level, the fate of eight gubernatorial positions and the mayor of Mexico City were also determined.

More than 98.3 million people were registered to vote. To facilitate such a large number of citizens, over 170,000 polling stations were opened.

Three political figures are competing for the highest government position. Among them is the current president's successor, Claudia Sheinbaum from the "Together We Continue to Make History" coalition. Her main competitor is Senator Xochitl Galvez from the right-wing "Strength and Heart for Mexico" coalition. The third candidate is Jorge Alvarez Maynes from the "Civil Movement" party.
