Serzh Sargsyan on Justifying Himself

Serzh Sargsyan on Justifying Himself

Be assured that the prosecution will appeal the decision of the first instance court. This was stated by the third President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, during a conversation with journalists, referring to the court's decision to acquit him.

Nevertheless, he noted that the decisions of several judges cannot characterize whether justice in our country is at a high level or not. “If you followed the trial process, it was evident that other companies, especially those claiming to have appealed, were unable to execute that program within the stipulated deadlines. What else could have happened?” he said.

When asked if he was expecting this decision, he replied, “It’s not that I was happy about this decision, or if another decision were made, I would have to suffer a tragedy. Considering that the statute of limitations for the act had long expired, this holds significant moral importance for me. Secondly, even if the first instance court had issued a guilty verdict, there was a second instance, and then a court of cassation; after that, there were other judicial institutions where we would have fought to somewhat mitigate the moral damage inflicted on me and my colleagues.”

He noted that the whole issue is that he has very few material resources, as everyone knows, and all of his accounts have long been under arrest, except for 75 percent of his pension.
