No Instructions from Local Authorities to Prepare for Possible Flooding or Disaster, Says Ayroum Resident
Despite being aware of the potential flooding of the Debet and Dzoraget rivers, local self-government bodies and relevant agencies have failed to prepare the community for possible flooding. This was reported by 'Pastinfo'.
Armen Asryan, a resident of Ayroum and father of eight, stated to the media: "It's 28 km from our village to Alaverdi, but first, you need to go to Akhtala, which is 8 km away, and from there it's already 36 km to Alaverdi." He added that crossing through the pedestrian bridge in Akhtala would allow them to reach Alaverdi. "It's far, but I think it's possible," he noted.
The interviewee further shared that there is currently no road for vehicles nor fuel to refill them. When asked whether Armen Asryan's family was informed about the possible flooding and what necessary steps they should take if it occurs, the father of many responded negatively, stating that no such warning had been given.
At present, they are forced to live by solving problems one by one, or, in human terms, trying to get back on their feet. "Thank God the children are healthy, the little ones have a slight cough, but I think it’s still possible to treat them with home remedies," said the father.
