It Was Unthinkable That a Deputy Would Be Beaten During Our Time and No Criminal Case Would Be Launched: Sargsyan

Yes, there were complaints about police actions during our rule as well, but you cannot name a case where our police used disproportionate force, and there was no response to it. This was stated today, May 31, in front of the court in Nor Nork during a conversation with journalists by the third President of Armenia, Serge Sargsyan.

“There have been 2-3 cases of disproportionate use of force, and these cases have been voiced for months, in some cases for years, both internally and externally,” he told reporters.

When asked why international organizations, which were once hyperactive regarding police abuses, are silent today, the third president replied, “Because they express disproportionate support for this government. They supported us on various issues as well, but now that support is disproportionate because this issue is not only political but also geopolitical.”

“It was unthinkable that a deputy would be beaten during our time and no criminal case would be launched. I am not saying that there were no internal investigations for various reasons, or that there was no partisanship within the police, but such a case has not occurred. Let someone prove it,” he added.
