The Railway Bridge Near Ayrum Station Will Serve Freight Trucks
The railway bridge located next to the Ayrum station, which has been inactive and was intended for the supply of a canned goods factory, will be transformed to serve freight trucks. This was announced by the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Gnel Sanosyan, during a government meeting where the activities of the operational staff of the emergency management were summarized.
According to the minister, active work is being conducted with partners in this direction. “Considering that restoring the connection from the Ayrum station to Alaverdi will take quite some time, we will transport cargo by rail to the Ayrum station, where there is a railway bridge that was previously used for the supply of the canned goods factory and has not been operational for a long time. Now, this railway bridge will be transformed into a bridge intended for freight trucks. In the coming two to three days, the work will be completed, and this bridge will serve to allow trucks to cross to the other side of the river, load various types of cargo from the Ayrum station, including fuel, and supply it throughout Armenia. This scheme will be operational in the coming days,” Sanosyan noted.
The minister also pointed out that there are damaged railways in Georgia as well. “Partners believed they would finish restoring the railway in three days, but several sections have been damaged again. I have spoken with the Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, and they plan to complete the work by Tuesday. Until then, we will have time to complete the transformation of that bridge on our side, and the railway will be able to operate up to the Ayrum station,” Sanosyan concluded.
