Large-Scale Drug Trafficking Case Uncovered: 21-Year-Old Arrested

The fight against illegal drug trafficking, particularly through the use of the internet, continues. This was reported by the Investigative Committee of Armenia.

As a result of investigative and procedural actions carried out by the Avan and Nor Nork investigative division of the Yerevan city investigative department, as well as operational-search measures conducted by the police, a case of large-scale drug trafficking by a 21-year-old resident of Yerevan was uncovered.

According to factual data obtained during the investigation, the 21-year-old, seeking to earn income, established contact with a user of the "L..." page through the Telegram messaging application on his mobile phone and agreed to place packages containing marijuana in different parts of Yerevan, each for a reward of $10.

In accordance with the agreement, in May 2024, the young man illegally acquired and stored 112 packages filled with marijuana weighing a total of 71.28 grams, left by the user of the aforementioned page from the Ararat and Kotayk regions. One of these packages was discovered during a personal search conducted by police officers on May 21, 2024, while the remaining 111 packages were found during a search of the young man's Toyota vehicle.

Based on sufficient evidence acquired, charges were brought against the 21-year-old under the second subsection of part three of Article 393 of the RA Criminal Code. Pre-trial detention has been applied as a preventive measure. The investigation continues, with necessary steps being taken to identify and locate other individuals involved in the illegal drug trafficking of large quantities.
