Over 2,000 Police to Secure Indian Prime Minister During Meditation: Media
More than 2,000 police officers, military personnel, and other service staff will secure Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his 45-hour meditation, marking the culmination of the country’s parliamentary election campaign, according to the Deccan Herald.
Earlier reports indicated that on the afternoon of May 30, the Prime Minister will head to Kanyakumari, the southernmost point of India, where he plans to visit a memorial dedicated to the Indian philosopher and proponent of the movement for India’s national independence, Swami Vivekananda. Later, he will begin his meditation at the Dhyana Mandapam complex, where Swami Vivekananda meditated several decades ago.
The Prime Minister expects to start his meditation on the evening of May 30 and conclude it by the evening of June 1.
“Police sources have reported that 2,000 officers will be deployed in and around Kanyakumari. Since the Prime Minister will remain at the stone memorial for 45 hours, a coastal security team, the Indian Coast Guard, and the Indian Navy will ensure security from the sea,” the newspaper states.
The elections for the lower house of India’s Parliament commenced on April 19 and will conclude on June 1, with vote counting set for June 4. The contest is for the 543 seats of the Lok Sabha (House of the People). According to experts, the favorite in the election is the ruling Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who, based on the voting outcome, could potentially serve a third consecutive term as Prime Minister of India.
Modi has also turned to meditation after previous election campaigns; in 2019, he visited the village of Kedarnath in the Himalayas, and in 2014, he meditated in the Pratapgarh district in the north of the country.
