VIDEO: Pregnant Woman Rescued by Zipline in Alaverdi
A pregnant woman has been transported by zipline in Alaverdi. This was reported by Facebook user Anna Hovhannisyan during a live stream.
She indicated that they arrived in Alaverdi by train and now need to use the zipline to transport food across the river. “They say that today a pregnant woman was brought across by zipline. The people have remained on the other side, where there is a school that is completely cut off,” she noted.
The user highlighted the need for food and medicine in the area.
It is important to remember that heavy rains fell in the Lori and Tavush regions on May 26, causing the Debed River to swell. As a result, roads, bridges collapsed, homes and vehicles were submerged, and people were trapped. Bridges were destroyed.
Due to the flooding, the M-6 interstate road is currently closed in both directions. The water level in the Debed River rose by 6 meters yesterday, and the 530 mm water pipeline from Alaverdi to Arjnis-Nonberyan was submerged, which disrupted water supply to 16 communities, though it has since been restored today.
As of now, there have been 4 reported fatalities due to the flooding. Reports from the Ministry of Emergency Situations indicate that as of 08:00 today, water levels have decreased compared to those observed yesterday at the same time: 105 cm in the Debed River at Ayroum observation point, 70 cm in the Dzoraget River, 50 cm in the Pambak River, and 57 cm in the Tashir River.
The Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Gnel Sanosyan, stated that the extent of the damage has not yet been assessed, but it is reportedly very significant.
