Video: 9-10 Settlements Currently Blocked, Catastrophic Situation in Akhtala
The Akhtala region is facing a catastrophic situation due to the Debet River overflowing its banks. Environmentalist Oleg Dulgarian, reporting from Akhtala, stated, "9-10 settlements are currently blocked. At this moment, it is unclear whether the Akhtala bridge exists or not, as it is likely submerged under water. Even if the water recedes, it will remain impassable. However, the road leading to the bridge has been destroyed; the river has taken it away, and the road is collapsed in places along the M6 highway, the section leading towards Shnogh and Teghut. There are also residential and business structures here that have either been fully or partially submerged. We hope everything is manageable, and we hope there are no casualties," he said.
The environmentalist points out that part of the M6 highway no longer exists, as it has been destroyed along with the railway line, which means that the settlements of Akhtala, Shamlugh, Little Ayrium, Great Ayrium, Chochkan, Shnogh, and Teghut are blocked, and it is unclear how long it will take for people to be able to access the road. "The route to the M6 highway is currently inaccessible, and there is no information on when it might be restored, which could lead to significant humanitarian difficulties," Oleg Dulgarian added, noting that he is also blocked since he is located in Little Ayrium. It should be reminded that due to heavy rain overnight, roads have been closed in several regions of Armenia, homes and vehicles have been submerged, and people have been trapped.
