The Water Has Not Yet Receded: Akhtala Mayor Provides Details
In the areas of Akhtala where homes have been submerged, residents have been evacuated. This was reported to NEWS.am by Mayor Sevak Sargsyan.
“The water has not yet receded. Those residents whose homes were flooded have been evacuated. There is one two-story building where two families lived that has gone underwater. The house is submerged, and we have evacuated them. There are also two private houses. We do not have any fatalities or injuries,” said the mayor.
He noted that about 15 residents have been evacuated. “People have noticed that the water is rising and they have come out. We evacuated only 2-3 people using boats. Two vehicles remain submerged, along with the houses. For now, this is our situation. The railway, bridges have either collapsed or been damaged,” Sargsyan told the media.
When asked whether there is electricity in Akhtala, Sargsyan said, “There are places with electricity and places without. The lights went out yesterday due to a lightning strike, and we cannot reach there to fix it because we would have to cross the Akhtala bridge, and the river is over it, making it impossible to pass.”
