The Village Road Has Collapsed, We Are Blocked: Head of Shnogh Administration

Extraordinary situations have arisen in several villages and towns in the Lori region due to the flooding of rivers. NEWS.am spoke with Samvel Mkrtumyan, the head of the Shnogh administrative district, who provided details about the disastrous situation in the region.

“The road from the direction of the Akhtala plant is completely impassable, the main road in the village has collapsed, there is a car in the water, and there is a person we cannot find, we are searching for them at this moment. The Akhtala bridge is closed, the water is flowing over it, we have evacuated residents to Djojkan with a tractor. All the orchards are underwater. The Teghut settlement is accessible, but there are rocks that have fallen. Water is currently flowing through Karkop, everyone has been evacuated except for a few citizens who have stayed to see what they can save,” he stated.

Mkrtumyan mentioned that rescue workers from the capital have not yet arrived, and they are in contact with rescuers from Noyemberyan and Alaverdi. “Rescue teams cannot pass through Shnogh, the road is completely blocked, we are trapped. The road near Tufenkyan is also completely destroyed, the M6 highway is entirely broken. The situation is even worse in Alaverdi, where water is flowing through the city, the Sanahin bridge has been divided for two months, it has collapsed,” he added.

Mkrtumyan insists that no dam has been destroyed; the disastrous situation has only arisen due to river floods. Earlier, it was reported that an extraordinary situation has been created in the city of Alaverdi and surrounding areas due to the flooding of the Debet River. The city of Tashir has also been flooded due to the flooding of the Tashir River.
