Russian Army Chief of Communications Accused of Major Bribery
The Investigative Committee of Russia accuses Vadim Shamarin, the head of the main communications department of the Russian Armed Forces and deputy chief of staff, of receiving a bribe amounting to 36 million rubles. This information was reported by Svetlana Petrenko, a spokesperson for the Investigative Committee of Russia, as cited by TASS.
According to the investigation, from April 2016 to October 2023, Shamarin received a bribe of 36 million rubles from Alexey Visokov, the CEO of the Perm telephone factory, and Elena Grishina, the chief accountant of the same company. This was in exchange for increasing the volume of goods supplied under government contracts for the needs of the Ministry of Defense and for general patronage.
Petrenko noted that Shamarin used the received funds at his discretion. Shamarin faces a maximum of 15 years in prison, along with a fine of a hundred times the amount of the bribe.
