Video: Pashinyan on Taxing the Church
The government has officially proposed that the Armenian Apostolic Church be fully brought into the tax system, while all collected taxes would be returned to the church. This was stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during today's Q&A session at the National Assembly.
According to him, the essence of this proposal is to completely eliminate the shadow economy and ensure transparency. “We have officially proposed that a tax system be implemented, and all the collected funds will be returned to the Armenian Apostolic Church if necessary, as we say, for the preservation and restoration of cultural heritage monuments, and we are also ready to provide additional funding,” said the Prime Minister.
He noted that the proposal has been rejected, which is difficult for them to understand. “When we analyzed what could be behind this rejection... It’s a matter of transparency because there are apparently problems related to financial flows,” Pashinyan stated.
