Drivers Reported Unjustified Absences on Some Public Transport Routes

The press secretary of the Yerevan Mayor, Haik Kostanyan, wrote on his Facebook page: "In some public transport routes, instances of drivers effectively failing to fulfill their duties and unjustifiably leaving their routes have been recorded. Many of you are aware that systematic reforms have been underway in this sector for some time, one result of which is that during the operational meeting held on May 20, 2024, it became clear from the report of the director of 'Yerevan Bus' LLC that with stricter oversight, weekly revenues from passenger transport are increasing, shadow operations are being reduced, and effective measures are being taken to improve the quality of services provided to our citizens. The Yerevan municipality views this initiative by the drivers as a saboteur action against the real and substantive reforms being implemented in the transport sector. There are concrete data indicating that the actions taken by the drivers today are directed, and therefore we will pursue the idea that those who are conducting and organizing these actions bear the strictest criminal liability. We apologize for the inconvenience caused and assure you that the Yerevan municipality is taking all necessary measures to restore the normal operation of public transport in the shortest possible time."
