Attempt to Set Fire to Mayor Parsyan's Lexus LX 570 in Kapan; NSS Arrives

According to SHAMSHYAN, an extraordinary incident occurred today, May 21, in the Syunik region. Around 19:30, citizens reported to the Kapan division of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs that a car was on fire near the Kapan city hall and the cultural center.

Similar reports were also received by the Kapan fire and rescue unit No. 54, but before the firefighters arrived, citizens managed to extinguish the fire that had erupted in the front part of the parked Lexus LX 570 with license plate 055 QQ 55.

According to sources, the mentioned vehicle is assigned to Kapan Mayor Gevorg Parsyan; however, it is registered under the balance sheet of the company “Norogshin” LLC operating in Kapan and is insured with Nairi Insurance. In case of issues, the insurance company contacts Grigori Parsyan, as his phone number is registered with the insurer for this vehicle.

Authorities suspect that the vehicle may have been intentionally set on fire. Documents have been prepared by the Kapan police department regarding the incident and have been forwarded to the Syunik regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia.

Employees of the National Security Service's Syunik branch and patrol service officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs also arrived at the scene.
