Two Protest Participants Arrested Near Kiran for Illegal Drug Possession and Transportation, Investigative Committee
On May 17, around 20:30, during an enhanced service conducted by police officers near the village of Kiran in Tavush Province, a vehicle was stopped due to the driver using tobacco while operating the vehicle as part of a protest action. According to the Investigative Committee, the driver of an Opel vehicle transferred a cigarette box from the car's interior to his pocket.
After being requested by the patrol officers to produce the contents of his pocket, the driver discarded the cigarette box. It was found that it contained a syringe and a greenish cannabis-like substance. The 59-year-old driver and his 66-year-old passenger, both residents of Yerevan, were apprehended on suspicion of illegal drug possession and were taken to the police department.
In connection with the incident, a criminal case has been initiated by the Tavush regional investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee under Part 1 of Article 396 of the RA Criminal Code. A decision has been made to arrest the two individuals, and the vehicle has been moved to a secured area. An investigation is underway to clarify the circumstances of the case.
