VIDEO: Truck Driver Attacked While Transporting Humanitarian Aid to Gaza
Israeli settlers have attacked a truck driver transporting humanitarian aid for the residents of Gaza. The IDF's press service reports that soldiers who arrived to assist the Palestinian driver, whose truck was set on fire by settlers near the Kofor HaShahar settlement, came under attack from Israeli civilians. According to the soldiers, two officers and a soldier sustained minor injuries.
The IDF spokesperson added that the army condemns any acts of violence against soldiers and security forces. Security forces will continue to work in the West Bank to ensure security, law, and order while striving to prevent violence and harm to citizens and residents.
On Thursday evening, dozens of settlers held protests in the West Bank against the transfer of humanitarian aid to Gaza. Throughout the day, right-wing activists attempted multiple times to block trucks heading from the West Bank to Gaza. The settlers set fire to the truck, which they believed was transporting humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. This incident occurred not far from the Kofor HaShahar settlement in the West Bank.
The driver sustained moderate injuries and was transferred to a hospital in Jerusalem for treatment. According to Israeli sources from security agencies, the protesters threw rocks at Palestinian vehicles. One of the protesters lightly struck a vehicle when, according to sources, the Palestinian driver turned towards the group of protesters and allegedly ran over one of them before leaving the scene. The IDF is viewing the incident as an unfortunate accident.
According to a military source, the driver attempted to hide from the group of protesters. To disperse the Israeli protesters, police and border police used noise grenades and tear gas. A source from security agencies stated that the police have made no arrests and are currently not controlling the situation.
