Kiran Residents Block Interstate Road
Residents of Kiran village in the Tavush region of Armenia have blocked the Armenia-Georgia interstate road. This has been reported by Sputnik Armenia.
The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced yesterday that the delimitation commissions of Armenia and Azerbaijan have reached new agreements. The Prime Minister's Office clarified that, according to these agreements, there will be relocation of the road and property issues in Kiran, and government representatives will begin assessing possible issues from the morning in order to compensate the damages suffered by the citizens.
Residents of Kiran are opposed to the agreements made by the delimitation commissions of Armenia and Azerbaijan. It should be noted that the delimitation commissions of Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed on April 19 to begin delimitation from the Tavush region. The description of the border areas will be compiled taking into account the clarification of coordinates resulting from geodetic measurements in the area, which is to be completed by May 15, 2024.
The Prime Minister's Office stated that as a result of this entire process, Azerbaijan will gain 2.5 villages, while the Republic of Armenia will see a reduction in security risks. After delimitation, armed forces in the areas of four villages will withdraw and give way to border guard troops. According to the latest reports, 40 border posts have already been installed along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
