We Urge the Ministry of Internal Affairs Leadership to Restrain Their Employees' Instincts: Union of Journalists of Armenia
The Union of Journalists of Armenia strongly condemns all attempts of police brutality against journalists carrying out their professional duties. "We urge the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to restrain their employees' instincts and the investigative committee to put an end to the practice of double standards. A journalist must be able to perform their work in any situation, and the police must ensure the unhindered execution of a journalist's professional activities without restrictions, especially without resorting to brutal force against the journalist," emphasized representatives from the Union.
They also strongly condemned all manifestations of hate speech, calling on both sides to refrain from such condemnable discourse and targeting that appears in social media and their statements.
It is noteworthy that today two representatives of the media were affected during the actions of police officers. Specifically, an operator from ABC Media was shoved by a red beret while filming, causing him to fall down the stairs, while another journalist, Mery Manukyan from 24news, lost consciousness due to a commotion caused by police officers in another location.
