Over 300 Dead Due to Floods in Afghanistan; State of Emergency Declared
More than 300 people have died due to floods in several provinces of Afghanistan, the World Food Programme reported on Saturday.
The authorities have declared a state of emergency and are taking measures to rescue those who have survived. Severe rainfall on Friday led to torrents of water and mud flowing into several villages and agricultural lands.
On Saturday, survivors traversed muddy streets filled with debris and damaged buildings, according to AFP. Authorities and non-governmental organizations have deployed rescue teams and assistance, warning that some areas have been cut off due to flooding.
