VIDEO: Is it Possible for the Police to Use Force? Question to the Chief of the National Police
The Chief of the National Police of Armenia, Aram Hovhannisyan, is currently in the Republic Square. When asked whether it is possible for the police to use force, he replied, "Within the framework of the law, only within the framework of the law. If there is a need to use force... I want to urge that such actions should not be allowed, so that the police need to use force."
In response to the observation that there might be provocateurs whom the police should neutralize, the police chief said, "Well, we will work to differentiate." He noted that the police are maintaining public order, stating, "We decide how many of us will do this. We are optimistic that nothing like that will happen. We are optimistic that no extraordinary actions will be allowed from the people."
It should be noted that a significant number of police forces have been deployed to Republic Square, where a large rally is scheduled to take place at 4 PM.
Recall that since May 4, a march led by Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan of the Tavush Diocese, originating from the village of Kiran of the Tavush region, which reached Abovyan last night, is now headed to Yerevan and is currently in the capital. At 4:00 PM today, participants of the march and citizens who have joined them will gather in Republic Square.
During these days, aside from individuals from Tavush, citizens from other regions of Armenia, artists, and relatives of fallen soldiers have joined the march. The participants of the procession are continuously being joined by new citizens. Various dioceses of the Armenian Apostolic Church have expressed their support for the "Tavush for the Homeland" movement and have also joined the march.
