The Topic of EU Membership Application Has Been Forgotten: 'Hraparak'
According to the daily newspaper 'Hraparak', the issue of Armenia's application for candidate status for EU membership is no longer being discussed within Nikol Pashinyan's team. Following the meeting that took place in Brussels on April 5, this topic has completely been closed off within intra-party discussions.
Prior to that meeting, there were nearly 24/7 closed-door gatherings and discussions focused on this topic, emphasizing the urgent need for such membership, which was believed to bring about the diversification of Armenia's economy and be a victory for their team.
As for the reasons why this topic is no longer being discussed, sources within the ruling party find it difficult to give a clear answer. They speculate that Pashinyan may raise the issue when the time is right, similar to the situation before the Brussels meeting, when he hoped to receive significant financial support from the West. Instead, he only received a promise of 350 million euros in grant assistance for the next four years.
