Son of Former Police Chief Arrested After Armed Robbery Attempt
On May 5, operational information was received indicating that the individual who had carried out an armed robbery on May 2 in the Arabkir administrative district of Yerevan was attempting to cross the state border of Armenia at the Bagratashen checkpoint. This was reported by Shamshyan.com.
It was noted that police units quickly arrived in the Tavush region, confirming that the operational information was accurate. They arrested 26-year-old Suren Melkonyan from Yerevan on suspicion of armed robbery and transferred him to the Arabkir division of the police.
According to sources, the suspect’s father is a police colonel who previously served as the head of the police departments in Noyemberyan and Ijevan. Suren Melkonyan has also been presented to the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia in Yerevan's Arabkir.
Sources indicate that the thorough and professional work of the police and investigators in Arabkir also revealed the assistance and incitement behind the armed robbery committed by the son of the former police chief. The accomplice was identified as 53-year-old Arthur M. from the Lori region.
