Decision on Criminal Case Against Mother for Brutal Treatment of Provincial Child

The Investigative Committee has announced the completion of the pretrial investigation into the case that sparked significant public outcry last year regarding the sexual abuse and violence against a child by a mother. The case will be heard by Judge Tigran Voskanyan, as reported by Armlur.am.

According to the investigative body, Hovhannes Petros Safaryan has been charged with committing lewd acts against a minor under the age of 12, extortion, and the distribution of pornographic materials or items. He was serving his sentence in cell number 3 of the first building of the Nubarashen penitentiary from October 2022 to August 2023, during which time, in accordance with an agreement reached with Anna Mayis Arevshatyan, he subjected helpless minors under the age of 12 to trafficking for prostitution and sexual exploitation through violence and threats of violence.

Anna Mayis Arevshatyan has also been charged with trafficking for prostitution and sexual exploitation of helpless minors under the age of 12 from October 2022 to August 2023. In collaboration with Hovhannes Safaryan, she is accused of taking advantage of their vulnerable situation and, in exchange for compensation and other benefits, using them for sexual acts. This included filming them and sending the resulting child pornography to Hovhannes Safaryan, which unintentionally led to severe consequences.
