The Statement is Very Important and Very Dangerous: Peskov
Conversations regarding the possibility of deploying troops to Ukraine by French President Emmanuel Macron represent a dangerous trend. This was stated today by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian president.
“The statement is very important and very dangerous. France, through its head of state, continues to talk incessantly about the possibility of its direct involvement on the ground in the conflict around Ukraine,” he said during a press briefing.
At the same time, he added that the Russian side will continue to monitor the development of this issue and emphasized that the special operation in Ukraine will continue until the established objectives are achieved.
Additionally, commenting on statements made by British Foreign Secretary David Cameron regarding Ukraine's right to strike targets within Russia, Peskov stated that this amounts to a “verbal escalation” by London that “could pose a threat to European security.”
On the previous day, in an interview with The Economist, Macron reiterated that he does not rule out the possibility of sending his troops to Ukraine. He clarified that this would depend on a request from Kyiv or a breakthrough by Russian troops along the frontline. According to him, the caution of European countries “will push Russia to attack.”
On the same day, Cameron stated that Ukraine has the right to use the weapons provided by London to strike targets within Russia, and that Kyiv should decide whether to do so or not. He also promised £3 billion ($3.74 billion) in annual military aid to Ukraine “for as long as necessary.”
