Cases of Excessive Use of Force by Police Reported in Tavush: Human Rights Defender

Cases of excessive use of force by the police have been reported in Tavush and various regions of the republic. This was stated by the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Anahit Manasyan, during a session of the National Assembly.

“At the same time, we have registered various issues, for instance, concerns related to the failure to guarantee minimum rights, as well as various other problems regarding the grounds and reasons for depriving a person of liberty, or, more disturbingly, if this occurs when a person is deprived of liberty within the framework of particular criminal proceedings,” she noted.

According to Manasyan, violence by participants of gatherings, the unacceptable nature of calls for violence, and hate speech have also been documented. “Therefore, issues cannot be viewed in a one-sided manner,” the Human Rights Defender emphasized.

According to Manasyan, the problems should not be exploited but rather solutions should be sought.
