Georgian Authorities Abandon Negotiations on Strategic Partnership with the U.S.

The Georgian government has chosen not to engage in direct discussions with senior American leaders regarding issues of U.S. assistance. This was stated in a written statement by Robin Dunnigan, the U.S. Ambassador in Georgia.

“Recently, we invited senior members of the Georgian government to work directly with senior officials of the United States to discuss our strategic partnership and any issues concerning U.S. aid. Unfortunately, the Georgian side has preferred not to accept that invitation,” said Dunnigan.

According to the ambassador, decisions made by the Georgian government in recent weeks have “removed the country from its Euro-Atlantic future.”

He highlighted the ruling party, “Georgian Dream,” showing determination to adopt a foreign agent law which, according to a clear statement from the EU, is incompatible with Georgia’s aspirations to join the EU.
