Video: There are 11 Points in the Kiranzi Area Subject to Delimitation, We Will Start the Delimitation There in the Coming Days, Says Pashinyan

We must seriously address this issue, and essentially, we are discussing it on a daily basis. This was stated today, on May 1, by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in an interview with Public Television, regarding the fact that our farmers have ownership certificates in the territories given to Azerbaijan.

"This is a fact and an argument that we need to address; we need to understand it, we must analyze this information ourselves, which is not new, and we need to engage with this topic. Moreover, I have told our beloved representatives of the people that I do not know how this will sound later, how it will be interpreted, how it will be used against me, but it is important that I have said it. What we are talking about is theoretical; we are speaking on the map, on the line, approximately. We do not know on the ground where it will be, how it will manifest itself. The experiences of Voskepar and Berkaberd have shown us this.

We thought there was a location that would probably be 50 meters away from some point of ours, then the device showed it is 100 meters away. There is a place we thought would be 150 meters away, and the device indicated it is 30 meters away. We need to go see on site, and I have told people about the problems that may arise. We see, we know that the border clearly passes through the village’s precinct, at least through the precinct. If it were a barren area, a few dozen meters this side or that side would not evoke any feeling.

We do not know what the ground condition is; we need to work on the ground to understand, but I have publicly stated that if such problems arise, that is not their problem; it is my problem, my government’s problem. And yes, there are ownership certificates, there are documents. We cannot disregard them; we cannot ignore them; we cannot say that this does not exist. We must engage, speak with people, understand, and clarify the bases,” emphasized Pashinyan.

To the question of what process is expected in the coming days in Kiranzi, Pashinyan replied: “During this time, I have had at least four meetings with representatives of Kiranzi. In the Kiranzi area, we have, if I’m not mistaken, 11 points subject to delimitation. That is, in a huge part of the section of those 11 delimitation points, the people of Kiranzi do not contest that border. In the coming days, we will begin the delimitation of the section that is not disputed, including by the people of Kiranzi; we will look for solutions around the other three points.”

“Now, to be honest, I do not want to disclose too much working information, including ownership certificates and other documents, some of which are under confidentiality and high confidentiality, even with special importance. We are studying them, and naturally, we must do everything to protect the interests of our residents, to safeguard them, to listen to them, and to try to implement what they are saying. But I want to draw everyone's attention to one aspect, which I mentioned in response to what seems like the first question: We are not delimiting the Kiranzi border now; we are delimiting the border of Armenia now; Kiranzi does not have a border. Kiranzi has a border to the extent that it is a border, border-guarding village. But wherever we are carrying out delimitation, we must implement a formula that does not materialize Armenia's state border in other areas, not by meters but by kilometers.

Yes, of course, the interests of every resident of Kiranzi are our focus, and we will do everything to protect their rights, dignity, and security. But I want to emphasize again that we are delimiting the Republic of Armenia’s border now. And again, I repeat that in Kiranzi, the following will happen: the sections that are not subject to dispute, including by our beloved sisters and brothers of Kiranzi, we will start delimitation work in that section, while we will continue working around the three or four points that are under debate until we arrive at some statement and can put convincing arguments on the table that will be accepted as truth,” he announced.
