Heat Wave Claims Lives in Bangladesh

At least 10 people have died in Bangladesh over the past week due to a severe heat wave, according to the Dhaka Tribune.

In the South Asian republic, temperatures have exceeded records for this time of year in 17 regions. The mercury has reached over 40 degrees Celsius, peaking at 41 degrees in Dhaka. Meteorologists warn that the abnormal heat is expected to persist in the coming days.

A complex weather situation is also affecting central and southern states of neighboring India. In New Delhi, temperatures are slightly above normal and nearing 40 degrees, exacerbated by a lack of wind.

In Odisha, West Bengal, and Bihar, temperatures have reached as high as 45 degrees. In the state of Kerala, two people have reportedly died due to heat-related issues.

Authorities are warning the public to avoid being outdoors during the day, stay hydrated, and refrain from heavy physical exertion in the heat.
