US May Approve $6 Billion Aid Package for Ukraine, Delivery Not Expected Soon: Politico
The US is finalizing a military aid package for Ukraine, valued at $6 billion, and could announce it as early as Friday, April 26. This was reported by Politico on Thursday evening, citing sources from US government agencies.
Politico notes that this package represents contracts with American companies to produce new weapons and ammunition for Ukraine, and therefore, these deliveries are likely to take a significant amount of time. The report suggests that we could be talking about a timeframe of several years.
According to informed sources speaking to Politico, the Biden administration is ordering Patriot missiles for Ukraine, as well as missiles, drones, air defense systems, and air-to-air missiles for Ukrainian aircraft.
The $6 billion for these orders will come from newly approved allocations for Ukraine, totaling $61 billion. Immediately after the approval of these allocations, the United States announced the dispatch of an immediate $1 billion military aid to Ukraine.
