VIDEO: Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia Arrested
The Basmanny Court of Moscow has placed Russia's Deputy Minister of Defense Timur Ivanov under arrest for two months until June 23, following his detention yesterday on suspicion of accepting bribes.
He has been charged under Part 6 of Article 290 of the Russian Criminal Code (receiving a particularly large bribe) and faces up to 15 years in prison. Ivanov appeared in court in military uniform but was immediately transferred to a detention facility in civilian clothes following the court's decision. Ivanov has denied his guilt.
In connection with the same case, Ivanov's close friend, Sergey Borodin, has also been arrested for two months. They are accused of colluding with third parties to receive bribes for providing services of a material nature while carrying out contract and subcontract work for the needs of the Ministry of Defense.
