Israel's Target for Striking Iran Was an Airbase Near Isfahan: NYT

An Iranian military airbase near the city of Isfahan has been hit, reports the New York Times, citing three Iranian officials. The sources clarified that the strike was Israel's first response to Iran's attack on the night of April 15.

The 8th Tactical Shahid Babaei Airbase is located near central Isfahan, Iran. The NYT, referencing flight tracking sites, notes that civilian aircraft have changed their routes and are flying over the Isfahan area.

The spokesperson for Iran's space agency, Hosein Daliryani, wrote on X that Iran's air defense shot down several drones, stating, "there is no information yet about a missile attack."

Iranian Fars News Agency reported that explosions were heard near Isfahan's civilian airport. However, according to sources from the agency, nuclear facilities in Isfahan province were not attacked and are completely safe.
