Examination System for Labor Migrants in Russia May Change

The Federal Service for Supervision of Education and Science (Rosobrnadzor) considers it possible to introduce changes to the examination for labor migrants as well as to adjust the scoring system. This information comes from RBC, citing the federal agency.

According to the publication, Rosobrnadzor deems it feasible and advantageous to reinstate the "speaking" section in the examination for labor migrants and to raise the minimum score required for obtaining residency status or Russian citizenship from 50 to 80. This initiative was previously proposed by Natalia Trukhanovskaya, rector of the A.S. Pushkin State Institute of the Russian Language.

“During their stay in our country, most migrants need to engage in oral communication with Russians in various situations,” the agency clarified. Furthermore, they explained that “currently, there is no speaking component in the examination for obtaining a work permit or license, while a 'speaking' section is planned for other levels of the examination.” To include a new section for labor migrants in the examination, it will be necessary to amend the regulations governing the administration of the exams on the Russian language as a foreign language, the history of Russia, and the fundamentals of Russian legislation.
