24-Year-Old Man Commits Sexual Assault and Murder of 93-Year-Old Woman

The criminal investigation initiated regarding a 24-year-old young man breaking into a 93-year-old woman's house in the village of Agarak, Lory Province, and committing sexual acts of violence against her, followed by her murder and theft from her residence, has concluded.

On December 1, 2023, a report was received from the Stepanavan Medical Center stating that an ambulance team responding to a call found the Agarak resident dead in her bed, with bloodstains on her head.

As a result of investigative and evidential measures conducted by the Lory Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee regarding the incident, it was established and substantiated that the apparent murder of the elderly woman was committed by her fellow villager in order to conceal the fact of his illegal entry into her home.

Specifically, the 24-year-old young man, under the influence of alcohol, visited his ex-girlfriend's home on November 30, 2023, around 11:30 PM, and knocked on the window. However, seeing that the homeowners had noticed him, he ran to a nearby house, broke a window, and illegally entered the 93-year-old woman's residence through the window.

While in the apartment, he entered the bedroom of the hostess, who noticed him. After this, in order to hide his illegal entry, he struck the elderly woman multiple times with his fists to her head and face, causing fatal injuries with the intention of taking her life.

In addition, disregarding the helpless state of the woman due to the injuries inflicted, before her death, he committed sexual acts of violence against her. Afterward, he stole two mobile phones belonging to the hostess and left the scene.

Based on sufficient factual data obtained, the 24-year-old resident of Agarak has been charged under several articles of the RA Criminal Code: part 1 of Article 207, part 2 of Article 155, part 1 of Article 198, and part 1 of Article 254. He has been detained as a preventive measure. The preliminary investigation has been completed. The materials of the criminal case, along with the indictment conclusion, have been sent to court.
