Japan Will Maintain Its Stake in Russian Oil and Gas Projects
Japan intends to maintain its stake in oil and gas projects in Russia. Tokyo considers these projects crucial for its energy security. This information is included in the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs' annual report titled "Blue Book on Diplomacy."
The document specifically states that the Japanese government has announced its intention to gradually withdraw from Russian energy resources, including coal and oil. However, regarding projects such as Sakhalin-1 and Sakhalin-2, in light of securing stable supplies in the medium and long term, Japan continues to view them as important projects in the realm of energy security and intends to maintain its stake in them.
At the same time, diplomats clarify that Tokyo will continue to implement a "tough sanctions policy" against Russia in cooperation with the G7 countries.
