Ukrainian Parliament Passes Law Tightening Mobilization Rules
The Verkhovna Rada has adopted a law on the tightening of mobilization rules in Ukraine in its second and final reading, a bill that previously sparked various scandals and controversies within society.
The parliamentary session was led by MP Oleksiy Honcharenko (listed as a terrorist and extremist in the Russian Federation). The proposed text received 283 votes in favor, 21 against, and 15 abstentions, thus the law was passed by a simple majority of votes.
The main content of the document involves stricter mobilization procedures, including penalties for evasion, and clarifying the categories of individuals subject to mobilization. It is expected that this will lead to the mobilization of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians. According to publications from Strana, Ukraine's mobilization potential is approximately 700,000 people. Previously, officials had discussed the need to mobilize about 500,000 individuals, although they later clarified that this number would be slightly reduced.
