Over 60 Organ Transplant Surgeries Performed in Armenia in 2023: Avanesyan
Health preservation and the development of the healthcare system are viewed not as expenses but as investments in the security of our country, the prosperity of the economy, and the construction of an independent, sovereign state. This statement was made today by Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan during the presentation of the government's 2023 performance in the National Assembly.
According to her, the results of the implemented measures, although mostly visible in the long term, are already showing positive trends in the country's registered birth rates, mortality rates, and health indicators.
The minister presented several indicators and emphasized that the services provided within the framework of state orders have increased in three significant areas that are the main causes of morbidity and mortality in the country: oncology, cardiovascular, and circulatory system diseases.
“The morbidity of circulatory system diseases, which is the leading cause of mortality in our country, decreased by 14.1 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year, and in 2023 it decreased by another 10.2 percent,” noted Avanesyan.
She also mentioned that the number of organ transplants has increased, with over 60 surgeries having been performed.
To promote the idea of healthy and active aging, raise awareness about healthy lifestyles among the elderly population, and encourage physical activity, healthy aging groups have been established in Yerevan. According to Avanesyan, this initiative has been received with great enthusiasm, and the model has also begun to be applied in the regions.
