The Mother See Should Discuss Celibacy Instead of Spreading 'Fake News': Vahagn Aleksanyan

During his conscious life, I have seen that the Mother See has spoken about various topics, but not about its ecclesiastical issues. This was stated by ruling party MP Vahagn Aleksanyan during a meeting with journalists at the National Assembly today.

“It would be an example if one day the Mother See stands and discusses celibacy. Otherwise, it talks about some political issues, some military issues, and spreads 'fake news'. People do not know whether the information is from a 'fake news' opposition newspaper or the official website of the Mother See. For instance, what does it mean that supposedly the Republic of Armenia has territories from the Tavush region? That is 'fake news'. Let someone from the Mother See ask: 'Dear Mother See, where is it written that those territories you mention, like Kherimlin and Zil Hajin, belong to Tavush? Where is the administrative territorial unit defined for that village? For example, does the village have a mayor or whose is it according to the cadastre?'” he said.

The MP believes it would be beneficial for the Mother See to speak about church-related issues, such as celibacy. “At a time when the country is under threat and false information is being spread, this does not help neutralize the dangers facing the country; on the contrary, it contributes to increasing those dangers,” he added.
