Armenia Does Not Contrast Cooperation with the West Against Relations with Iran, Says Prime Minister

Armenia is not developing its cooperation with Brussels at the expense of its relations with Tehran. This statement was made by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a session of the National Assembly. He once again emphasized Armenia's special approach to cooperation with Iran.

“Our relations with this neighbor are based on natural interests, which makes these relations unique. Moreover, we do not contrast our relations with the West with our relations with Iran, and vice versa,” he concluded.

Earlier, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani, commenting on the meeting in Brussels between Armenia, the USA, and the EU, stated that the South Caucasus should not become a battleground of geopolitical competition. He emphasized the importance of strengthening economic cooperation and expanding ties. Kanaani highlighted that regional cooperation is crucial for establishing peace and stability in the Caucasus.

We are currently in a wait-and-see mode regarding our relations with Turkey, added the Prime Minister. “We are awaiting the implementation of the agreements reached and officially recorded, namely, the opening of the Armenia-Turkey land border for citizens of third countries and holders of diplomatic passports. The opening of the border will be a historic event for our region, and we must continue our efforts in this direction,” he stated.
